Drugs induced dysnatremia: I. Drug hyponatremia

Hyponatremia is a relatively common and serious complication in outpatient and hospitalized patients. It is associated with increased mortality and morbidity. The clinical manifestation is very diverse and its development is due to a large number of causes, including iatrogenic drug-induced . The factors involved in the development of hyponatremia may be mutually combined, the causes are often not clearly identified and therefore drug hyponatremia remains undetected and underdiagnosed. The aim of this paper is to provide a literature review of the potential of individual drugs to induce hyponatremia, to describe the pathophysiological mechanism of this adverse effect and to facilitate its management in clinical practice.
