Klin Farmakol Farm. 2013;27(1):6-10
Objective of the study: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the acceptance of the commonly recommended rules for a healthy
lifestyle among the general public. This should be part of the prevention of cardiometabolic risk in metabolic syndrome.
Methods: A questionnaire survey of 100 respondents was carried out from January 2011 till March 2011. All the data from the respondents
were processed using Microsoft Excel 2010.
Results: Up to 90 % of the respondents consciously think about prevention, with 66 % of them making an effort to practise a healthy
lifestyle; 53 % report regular physical activity; and 74 % consume fruit and vegetables on a daily basis. Only 15 % of the respondents
reported use of dietary supplements. The acceptance rate of a healthy lifestyle was highest in younger age groups, in women, and in
the population of bigger cities. Especially respondents with fewer health risks perceive healthy lifestyle as prevention.
Conclusion: The pilot project validated a questionnaire method to evaluate the lifestyle of the general public. The pharmacist can play
a role of a specialist consultant in the prevention of cardiometabolic risk of patients by influencing their lifestyle, particularly in terms
of a rational and beneficial use of dietary supplements.
